Governor Brewer has signed House Bill 2443 into law. This useful bit of legislation makes it illegal to perform or fund an abortion on the basis of the fetus's purported race or gender. Because that's been such a problem lately, don't you know.
The legislative giant behind this thing is Rep. Steve Montenegro, R-Litchfield Park. He says in his defense, "I introduced this bill to take a stand against bigotry and prejudice," Well thanks, Steve. How kind of you. I think we'll follow your bold and heroic lead here and forgo potatoes that have been grown by Packers fans to take a stand against Communism and the reappropriation of wealth.
The real issue here, of course, is that once again the "limited government" types are forcing their way in between a woman and her body. The State doesn't give a damn about race relations (*cough* SB 1070 *ahem*), it wants to assert control. At first glance any reasonable person would conclude that this new law is an absurdity--a self-aggrandizing attempt to score points by passing harsh, unenforceable laws addressing problems nobody's complaining about. In reality, it is, as always, about control.
Why is it that every damn time you give these Reepubs even the slightest benefit of a very serious doubt, they seem to cackle insanely and pull this (and forthcoming) garbage?
Are we really better off with these, or any, jerkfaced mailboxheads in power?
